Have Fun and Stay cool at Daytona Lagoon

By Janice McSherry

If you are looking for an amusement park that will satisfy every member of your family, then be sure to check out Daytona Lagoon. Located at one Florida’s most famous beaches, the Lagoon has a mix of “dry” and “wet” attractions that will entertain and engage you and your family for a whole day.

Activities at the Lagoon include, The Lagoon Waterpark, Go-Karts, Laser Tag, an arcade, a rock wall, a carousel and The Phoenix Extreme Swing. The park is easy to find and is located at Oceanwalk Village, next to the Ocean Center and other hotels and resorts in the center of Daytona Beach.

Although it’s centrally located, in the heart of all the action, you won’t have to worry about parking as there is a six story county parking garage adjacent to the facility.

Let’s take a look at what you can expect here.  First of all, Daytona is known for its racing cars and speedways, and one of the main attractions of this park is the Go Kart speedway. This is no ordinary go kart track, as it has hairpin turns and blinding straight-aways that will test the best drivers. Go-kart drivers must be 56" tall. Double-Seat drivers must have a valid driver's license (non-restricted) to drive a double-seater.

Another stand-out feature is The Phoenix. This is a thrill ride where you will be strapped in swinging seats while going to an elevation of 100 feet. You will be hurled upward and downward with 4Gs of force.

If you prefer a quieter sort of entertainment then you can try a round of miniature golf, on one of the two courses that weave their way through the Go-Kart Track and the water park.

Adventurous types can try out the 3000 square foot Laser Tag arena or climb the 25 foot Rock Wall. And just about anyone will find something of interest in the park’s Mega Arcade which claims to be the county’s biggest and most up to date.

If you want to cool off from the hot Florida sun, then be sure to visit the Lagoon’s water park which provides one million gallons of rushing water going through a series of speed slides ranging from the 62 foot tower and slide known as Blackbeard’s Revenge to the Lazy River Pelican’s drift where you can relax in a tube as you drift around the bay.  There is also a 500,000 gallon wave pool.

If this sounds interesting to you then here are some of the vital details: The park is a "Pay-As-You-Play" facility.  What this means is that it's always free to come into the facility but to participate in the different attractions you must purchase a ticket or other all-inclusive type of pass. All attractions are individually priced and start out at $1.00 for a carousel ride. Daily general admission for the waterpark is $27.99 for adults, $19.99 for juniors and Florida residents (ID required) and $9.99 for seniors or spectators.

The address and contact information are: Daytona Lagoon / 601 Earl Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32118 Ph: 386-254-5020 / Fx: 386-257-2060. You can also visit their website (search for “Daytona Lagoon”).
